STEP #1:  Once the program has been finalized and becomes available at the website  each presenter is expected to attend the conference and present.  Each author/co-author must pay the registration (membership) fee of $90.00 (online, check or cash) at the SALSB annual meeting--payable at the door. If a presenter has a legitimate reason for not attending and presenting the paper at the scheduled time, the scheduled presenter MUST notify the Executive Director IN ADVANCE of the scheduled time for the presentation. Failure to notify the program chair and provide an acceptable justification in a timely manner will result in a one (1) year suspension from program participation at a SALSB Annual Meeting. Presenters must bring sufficient copies of their paper (25-30) for distribution at the time of the presentation at the conference.

STEP #2:   After the conference, any paper presented may be submitted to the Editor of the Southern Law Journal for publication in the next issue based on the STYLE SHEET ( http://www.salsb.org/slj/index.html ). To be considered for publication, papers must be postmarked no later than April 15 of the year of the conference or e-mailed to the Editor in Chief on or before the same date. Papers submitted will then be circulated using a blind peer review process and ranked.  Since the Journal has a maximum of 200 printed pages (over 200 pages becomes very expensive) the top ranked papers totalling less than 200 pages will be published.  The number of articles actually accepted, therefore, will depend on the number of pages, formatting, etc. (estimated anywhere from 8-12) which may vary from year to year.

STEP #3:  Of those papers actually accepted for publication in the Southern Law Journal, ONE will be chosen as "Best Paper" by the SALSB Executive Committee (Officers, ED, and Editor) with the award given the following year at the NEXT annual meeting of the SALSB.  The award comes with a $300 cash honorarium and, if there is time, a nice plaque.  So, e.g., the award being given in San Antonio on March 9, 2006, is a paper presented at the 2005 conference and published in the Fall 2005 Journal.

The Refereed Proceedings

Papers submitted for publication in the SLJ that are not accepted for publication, will be published in the online Refereed Proceedings of the SALSB. Papers published in the Proceedings may be sent simultaneously to other journals
